Modeling of Moving Interface Problems with the ETILT

چکیده
In recent years, much effort has been devoted to development of numerical formulations for analysis of moving boundaries and interfaces. The Edge-Tracked Interface Locator Technique (ETILT) was introduced to better enforce mass balance and to yield a sharper representation of the interface. In this technique the interface is defined by a combination of node-based and edge-based representations of an interface function. The time-evolution of the interface function is governed by a time-dependent advection equation. The mass conservation is accomplished with the edge-based representation of the interface function. The fluid densities and viscosities are also calculated with this edge-based representation. In this work, different algorithms for the edge-to-node projection are described, and these algorithms are tested in computation of the collapse of a liquid column.

A fast and simple method for modeling of oil swelling in Co2 injection
In this paper, the role of molecular diffusion in mobilization of waterflood residual oil is examined. A moving mesh method is applied to solve the moving interface problem of residual oil blobs swelling by Co2 diffusion through a blocking water phase. The results of this modeling are compared with experimental results of a 2D glass micromodel experiment. Although, the solution method is applie...
متن کاملCoupling Nonlinear Element Free Galerkin and Linear Galerkin Finite Volume Solver for 2D Modeling of Local Plasticity in Structural Material
This paper introduces a computational strategy to collaboratively develop the Galerkin Finite Volume Method (GFVM) as one of the most straightforward and efficient explicit numerical methods to solve structural problems encountering material nonlinearity in a small limited area, while the remainder of the domain represents a linear elastic behavior. In this regard, the Element Free Galerkin met...
متن کاملMoving Three Collinear Griffith Cracks at Orthotropic Interface
This work deals with the interaction of P-waves between a moving central crack and a pair of outer cracks situated at the interface of an orthotropic layer and an elastic half-space. Initially, we considered a two-dimensional elastic wave equation in orthotropic medium. The Fourier transform has been applied to convert the basic problem to solve the set of four integral equations. These set of ...
متن کاملThermal Simulation of Solidification Process in Continuous Casting
In this study, a mathematical model is introduced to simulate the coupled heat transfer equation and Stefan condition occurring in moving boundary problems such as the solidification process in the continuous casting machines. In the continuous casting process, there exists a two-phase Stefan problem with moving boundary. The control-volume finite difference approach together with the boundary ...
متن کاملStatistical Background Modeling Based on Velocity and Orientation of Moving Objects
Background modeling is an important step in moving object detection and tracking. In this paper, we propose a new statistical approach in which, a sequence of frames are selected according to velocity and direction of some moving objects and then an initial background is modeled, based on the detection of gray pixel's value changes. To have used this sequence of frames, no estimator or distribu...
